Lemon'aide' for the Humane Society

In these dog days of summer, with the hounds panting in their kennels and wishing that we had more bone$$$ to purchase an extra wading pool or two, the answer to their puppy prayers proudly paraded (we love alliteration here) through the shelter doors of the Humane Society!  Five little girls made quite the generous, and most admirable, decision to donate all of their hard earned lemonade stand profit to the needy shelter animals at the Humane Society.  My faith in humanity restored!!! It is because of their donation and the commendable chararcter of these girls that an ordinary lemonade stand was transformed into "Lemon'aide' for Lucky."  And Lucy.  And Loreli.  And all the other dogs whose name does not start with L.

From the dogs of STHS, a huge bark out goes to: Taylor Saucier, Bailey Saucier, Alina Vaccaro, Larisa Vaccaro, and Sara Jane Lowery.  When mom gives you lemons...give lemon'aide'!!!

Sydney not only makes a donation but also adopts while she's here!

Sydney and a group of her friends have started a club in which they collect money to donate to shelter animals. Sydney brought in a jar of cash (the club's very first collection for shelter animals). Sydney also adopted one of our kittens, Ripley (the kitten she is holding in the photo). Ripley was adopted so the abandoned cat that her family took in a few weeks ago will have a little friendly companion.

We salute you Sydney, for being a fellow partner for the pound pups!!

Emmy Makes a Humane Donation!

This is Emmy and she is what we like to call a Philanthropist in the making.  Emmy donated her whole week's allowance of $25 to the homeless dog and cats of the St. Tammany Humane Society.  Her mother then doubled it with a $50 donation for a grand total of $75 donated to the STHS.  It is amazing the minds these young children have.  Many would never give up their allowance to someone or something else I should say.  Emmy truly made a humane donation.  All the dogs and cats thank you Emmy!

Two Girls, and Box, and a lot of Love!

This year at Cedarwood School in Mandevile, the focus has been learning how to be responsible pet owners.   Sherie Malta, a thrid grade teacher at the school, was approached by two of her students wanting to collect donations for our shelter.  One girl had recently adopted a dog from us and both were really excited to help!  The two girls set up a collection box in the office and took donations for one week.  after only one week, the girls raised a little under $200.00 and presented us with the check on Friday, May 21st.

A special thanks to these girls and all the people at Cedarwood School for your help and involvement in the community!

Who We Are

The St. Tammany Humane Society is the only non-profit animal sheltering and welfare organization serving St. Tammany parish, and as such, we rely primarily on the assistance of the community we serve to care for the more than 1,000 orphaned pets that enter our shelter each year.

We offer a variety of services and have developed several programs to give these companion animals a second chance and a new leash on life.

Please take some time to dig in to the site and see what we’ve got to wag our tail about.
